The National Dog Show presented by Purina will premiere on Thanksgiving Day for its annual two-hour special from noon to 2 p.m. (all time zones) on NBC.

Who hosts the televised National Dog Show on Thanksgiving?

John O’Hurley and David Frei return, having hosted the show since its inception in 2002. Their relationship with a generation of viewers has made them a significant presence in the lives of millions. John handles play-by-play with David providing expert analysis.

John is best known as J. Peterman in the iconic television sitcom Seinfeld (now on Netflix). He’s also a dog lover, actor, writer, and Broadway musical star.

David is the 27-year-old former face and voice of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and one of America’s foremost authorities on all things canine.

Returning this year is Mary Carillo, Hall of Fame TV reporter, Olympics presenter and tennis commentator. She will report on the bench area behind the scenes with reports and interviews.

Will another award ceremony be held during this year’s show?
This year’s Dogs Best Friend Award will go to world-renowned sculptor, Susan Bahary, famous for her work showcasing the animal-human bond. Susan is spearheading an initiative to establish a National Service Animal Monument (NSAM) that is now heading towards congressional approval. The Kennel Club of Philadelphia will donate $5,000 to the cause in conjunction with the award.

Any favorites for this year’s national dog show?

We have plenty of entries in the top 20, and they are going to have great challenges in their breed competition, especially among French Bulldogs, English Spaniels, German Shepherd Dogs, Afghan Hounds and more.

Are there any new breeds to be introduced to the National Show Dog competition this year?
There are three new breeds that will be introduced to Thanksgiving Day viewers across America during the show this year. They are: Russian toy, Mudi and Bracco Italiano.
