The Japanese dog breed, Shiba Inu, comes second on the list, with 3,036,000 searches in the past 12 months.

However, this high number of searches may be due to the fact that the cryptocurrency shares the same name, which was also very popular.

The French Bulldog ranks third on the list of popular dog breeds in the UK, with the small dog breed generating around 2,484,000 searches in 2021.

The Cocker Spaniel comes in fourth place, averaging 192,000 searches each month, which equates to 2,304,000 searches during the year.

A MapleCasino spokesperson said: “Dogs are one of the most popular pets in UK households, so it’s interesting to see which breeds are the most popular in the country.

“The data shows that the boxer is the most popular breed, and this is probably due to the fact that he has desirable traits like being playful, intelligent and loyal.

“During the blockages, many people have sought companionship in the form of a dog, as owners are often able to spend more time with their furry friend due to working from home.”
