Collegedale’s ‘Raise The Woof’ event is held to help local dog rescue group

On Sunday, August 28, the Collegedale Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring Trooper’s Treasures, a local dog rescue group, for their first-ever ‘Raise the Woof’ fundraising event at Collegedale Commons.

The event will feature food trucks, vendors, children’s games, dog demonstrations, a silent auction, a parade of adopters and much more. Come from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to support the cause while having fun and petting the dogs.

Trooper’s Treasures is a non-profit dog rescue group in Chattanooga, founded by local teacher Ruth Smith in 2010 after a house fire claimed the life of her beloved Shih-Tzu named Trooper. Each year, hundreds of rescue dogs find loving homes through the tireless efforts of a dedicated team of Trooper’s Treasures volunteers.

Volunteers ensure the dogs are not kept in shelters but in homes with foster families until their forever families are found. Dogs in need of medical attention receive it, increasing the cost of rescue to astonishing figures.

Trooper’s Treasures depends on volunteers to serve as host families. Foster families take dogs into their homes each week while soldiers search for an adoptive family. Foster families provide the love, security, food, and help build the trust that so many rescued dogs need.

Trooper’s Treasures can be found every Saturday at Petco on Gunbarrel Road with a variety of dogs available for adoption. All dogs receive vaccinations appropriate to their age and are sterilized.
