Here are six of the shelters and rescue centers to stop at before deciding which puppy to adopt.

Greenleaf Animal Rescue is located at Leeds Beckett University in Queen Square.

To adopt a dog, online visitors can fill out a form to inquire about specific dogs they have seen on the website.

They can then arrange a visit with the animal to decide if it is compatible!

Good Life Dog Rescue is on Pinn Fold on Great North Road.

They have a wide range of Staffordshire terriers by the minute – all looking for a family to bring them home.

It is open from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.

They focus on repatriating dogs that would otherwise be abandoned in a dog pen and euthanized.

It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day to find your ideal companion.

Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue

Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue is located at 10 Ash Grove in Cleckheaton.

They are staffed entirely by volunteers and ensure that all dogs are microchipped, vaccinated, fread, dewormed and neutered before being rehomed.

The Leeds branch of Dogs Trust is located at Woodlands Farm on York Street.

People interested in a dog seen online can complete an application form for the dog and then attend shelter visits with them.

The Leeds branch is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except weekends when it opens at 8.30 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m.

RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield and District Branch

The Leeds and Wakefield branch of the RSPCA is on Moor Knoll Lane in Wakefield.

Their website hosts dogs as well as a range of cats, guinea pigs and rabbits and is updated regularly.

Visitors can adopt a dog by contacting the Leeds branch and expressing interest in a seen online.

The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Monday and Wednesday.
