Richard W. Powell, of Palmyra, will be a judge at the upcoming 146th Annual Conference Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
The show will take place on January 26, 2022 and will be presented by Purina Pro Plan in New York.
Powell will judge the Terrier group and the winner of that group will advance to the Best in Show competition.
The dog show is not a new arena for Powell. He has a lifetime of experience with purebred dogs, starting with English Cockers and then breeding and showing English Setters in England, according to a Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show press release.
Because Powell’s long-term dream was to breed and exhibit terriers, he gained some experience with top handlers in California before embarking on his own terrier journey. He bought a small farm and kennel with his wife, Sue, and bred and showed many terriers, including Flatford and Hapitails Welsh terriers.
Powell has previously judged many other national specialties. He has judged terrier specialties overseas in South America, England and Europe, and received approval to judge Best in Show, Working Breeds and Dogs, Toys, Terriers and Groups sportsmen.
