As regional health and safety authorities have lifted restrictions on public gatherings, events and activities, the national dog show is officially back as an event open to the public.

The Kennel Club of Philadelphia National Dog Show will be held November 20-21 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks. Tickets are on sale on the TicketLeap.com e-commerce site. Tickets and information are also available on NDS.NationalDogShow.com, the main regional event website.

We are delighted to welcome people back to the Exhibition Center to join us in this wonderful tradition, ”said Wayne Ferguson, President of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia (KCP). “With the year we have had, the National Dog Show will be a great reminder of the joy and love that dogs bring into the homes of people around the world.”

The popular show, one of America’s most prestigious, began in 1879 and has been run continuously by the KCP since 1933. Some 2,000 dogs of 200 different breeds will be on display Saturday and Sunday at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. Ahead of the pandemic, attendance has increased in five of the past six years and enthusiastic crowds are expected in November.

Tickets, available here, are priced at $ 16 for adults and $ 7 for children ages 4 to 11, with children three and under admitted free. In two years of KCP-commissioned research, Temple University’s Sports Industry Research Center found that the average stay for a family at the National Dog Show is three and a half hours. With low prices and free parking; the KCP has arguably one of the best entertainment values in the region.

“We are a non-profit organization and the main purpose of the show is to educate the public about dogs; therefore, we take our admission prices very seriously, ”said Ferguson. “Our top priority is to keep this family experience for everyone, no matter what their circumstances. We let the public interact with the dogs, so they can find the most suitable dog for their home. This is what makes us unique.

The National Dog Show is one of three in the United States that is a “bench” show, meaning that each of the 2,000+ dogs is assigned a location on the Expo Center floor and can be found by referring to the event program. Before COVID-19, the only other shows held in America were the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and the Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog Show at Cow Palace in San Francisco.

The National Dog Show is one of the largest in the world due to its history dating back to the 1800s, its location in the fourth largest market in the United States, and the National TV Show on NBC, showing the competition from Saturday after Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The national dog show presented by Purina exceeds 20 million total audiences each year, more than any major sporting and entertainment event on television.
