Seattle Center Festival continues with the Italian Festival on Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, September 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall and Fisher Pavilion. The festival is family-friendly, free and open to the public.
“The Italian community is very pleased that the Italian Festival at the Seattle Center returns in all its glory for its 35th year,” said Dennis Caldirola, director of Festa Italiana. “Last year we were the only festival to have an in-person event, but due to social distancing etc, it was quite moderate. This year it’s all back: pizza throwing, stomping grapes, Saturday night concert and dancing, food demos, wine gardens, everything!”
The Italian Festival offers a variety of activities over the weekend. From the Italian Motor Show, Petanque Tournament and Dog Breed Show to musical performances and face painting, the Italian Festival has something for everyone.
“Our vision for One Seattle is a city that comes together to celebrate its diverse cultural communities and their traditions,” said Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. “Now in its 35th year, Italian Fest is a chance for our city to honor the unique cultural roots of Italian Americans in the Pacific Northwest through upbeat music, delicious food and wine, and so much more. .”
The Grape Stomp will take place on the roof of the Fisher Pavilion on both days between 12:40 p.m. and 5 p.m. with “Ballard’s famous guy” emcee, Doc Bailey. Performances include Doc Bailey as well as Anthony “Nino” Lane Group, Seattle Mandolin Orchestra and Sedentary Ballard Sousa Band.
A robust children’s activity program will take place at Tino’s Cortile, or Children’s Court, upstairs from the Armory. There will be hands-on art activities and a pizza toss for the kids while face painting will be at the bottom of the stairs.
“Seattle Center is pleased to host the Italian Festival on its grounds,” said Robert Nellams, Seattle Center Director. “We are delighted to welcome all visitors to campus for a festival that is sure to entertain all who attend.”
